Spain’s tourism is UP but fewer international tourists staying in hotels

Overnight stays in extra-hotel tourist accommodation have decreased by 2.8pc in June compared to June 2025.
Apartment overnight stays have decreased by 3.6pc, with non-resident stays falling by 6.4pc.
The Apartment Tourist Price Index has risen by 4.0pc and the Campsite Price Index has risen by 2.1pc.
Campsite overnight stays have decreased by 0.9pc, while rural tourism stays have decreased by 0.3pc.
Hostel overnight stays have experienced the largest decline at 13.2pc.

Overnight stays in extra-hotel tourist accommodation have decreased by 2.8pc in June compared to the same month in 2025, with the total exceeding 14.9m overnight stays across apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation, and hostels. The overnight stays of residents have fallen by 0.7pc, while those of non-residents have decreased by 4.8pc, and the average stay has been recorded at 3.7 overnight stays per traveller. The apartment sector has experienced a decline of 3.6pc in overnight stays, with resident stays increasing by 1.9pc and non-resident stays falling by 6.4pc, while the average stay in apartments has been reduced by 8.7pc to 4.2 overnight stays per traveller.

The occupancy rate for apartment places has reached 41.1pc, representing an increase of 1.9pc compared to June 2025, while the weekend occupancy rate has reached 46.8pc with an increase of 2.5pc. Non-resident travellers have accounted for 64.1pc of overnight stays in apartments, with the United Kingdom remaining the principal source market at 35.6pc of the total. The Canary Islands have been confirmed as the preferred apartment destination with over 2m overnight stays and a decline of 0.2pc, while Illes Balears has achieved the highest occupancy at 79.5pc of offered apartments.

Campsite overnight stays have decreased by 0.9pc, with resident stays falling by 1.7pc and non-resident stays increasing by 0.3pc, while 45.5pc of offered plots have been occupied with an annual increase of 1.9pc. Rural tourism accommodation has experienced a decline of 0.3pc, with resident stays increasing by 1.3pc and non-resident stays falling by 2.9pc, while hostel overnight stays have decreased by 13.2pc. The Apartment Tourist Price Index has risen by 4.0pc, the Campsite Price Index has risen by 2.1pc, and the Rural Tourism Price Index has fallen by 0.1pc.
