Spanish hotel overnight stays increase by 2.5pc in May

Official data from the Spanish National Statistics Institute revealed that hotel overnight stays exceeded 36.3m in May. Stays by Spanish residents fell by 0.2pc while those by international visitors rose by 3.7pc. Cumulative overnight stays for the first five months of 2026 grew by 2.6pc compared with the same period in 2025. 

The average hotel room revenue reached €123.7, up 4.2pc year on year. RevPAR stood at €88.0 after a 5.8pc increase. The hotel price index rose by 5.0pc in the annual rate.

Occupancy stood at 61.5pc, down 2.1pc from May 2025. Illes Balears recorded the highest occupancy rate at 73.5pc.
