Teletext Holidays, the longest established digital travel agency in England has launched an Irish operation.

The ‘bucket and spade, cheap and cheerful’ holiday company, which also offers value-for-money European city breaks, all-inclusive options and last minute deals, conjures up a ‘nice smile in the mind’ of holidaymakers according to Kelly Maher, Head of Marketing, who officially launched teletextholidays.ie at One Pico restaurant in Dublin on Wednesday.

Operating as a brand within the Truly Holdings Group – alongside sister brands Alpharooms and Truly Travel – Teletext Holidays brought over 380,000 people on holidays in 2016 and has carried 20 million customers over 25 years.

“Everyone has booked a Teletext holiday at some point whether it was a honeymoon or family sun holiday” said Kelly.

Teletext Holidays originally allowed customers to book their summer getaway via their TV screenand has since switched to an online platform. The Irish model will operate a fully online-bookable service (with back-up phone service) compared to its UK call-to-book model.

On the decision to retain Teletext in the brand name- a word which some consumers continue to associate with TV and others may never have heard of – Kelly said; ‘Market research revealed the value of the brand name, there’s nostalgia around the name and brand history.“Ireland is a really good market for us and we’re excited to fully break into the online model”.

In year one, the company aims to ‘test the waters’ in Ireland. “The hope is to break even in year one and grow in year two” said Kelly. “The European sun holiday, our bread and butter, is under pressure availability-wise again this year as resorts sell out. Teletext Holidays offers substantial purchasing power which is good news for Irish holidaymakers”.

The company will operate a flights and hotel model with departures from Dublin and Cork.

Teletext Holidays told invitees that Teletext has provided holidays in England for 20 years, and counts 380,000 customers annually, totalling 20m customers over the last 25 years.

The company originated as part of the text Tv service and moved from TV screens to a fully integrated online platform. The portfolio includes worldwide beach holidays, European city breaks, all-inclusive options, and last-minute deals from all Irish airports.

At the launch of Teletext Holidays in Dublin earlier today, Head of Marketing, Kelly Maher said, “our goal is to fulfil Irish holidaymakers’ dreams with a huge choice of great value holiday options to suit every budget. Our hope is that people will tap into our 25 years of experience and let us take the stress out of doing the search so they can relax and enjoy their well-earned holiday experience. Teletext Holidays also provide customers with destination guides, travel tips, travel information, product updates as well as a huge range of offers and exclusives for last minute bookings throughout the year.

  • The company is licensed and bonded by the Irish Commission for Aviation (CAR Licence no TA 0771).
  • Teletext Holidays phone lines are open daily from 8am to 11pm – including bank holidays.
