The Cabildo of Tenerife has introduced charges for two of the most walked paths on Mount Teide, Telesforo Bravo and Montaña Blanca to La Rambleta. In the first month of the scheme visitor numbers fell from more than 38,000 to under 11,000. Authorities say the measures aim to protect sensitive areas.

From 6 December 2026 hikers must secure a free permit via the Tenerife ON platform to access three previously open trails. A combined cap of 225 people per day applies across the three routes. Park rangers will enforce equipment compliance at trail entry points including trekking boots, warm clothing, thermal blanket, flashlight and water.

The regulations update rules for summit routes managed on Tenerife ON. Time slots for Telesforo Bravo are reduced from two hours to 90-minute intervals with a hard limit of 300 people per day. Fees ranging from €3 to €15 apply to certain slots for non-residents while Tenerife residents enjoy free access.
