  • Trump Doonbeg has appealed a planning condition for its new ballroom.
  • The condition requires a Vertigo Angustior Management Plan.
  • Clare County Council granted permission in February.
  • The appeal claims restoration of the snail’s status is beyond control.
  • TIGL Ireland Enterprises Ltd submitted the first party appeal.

Trump Doonbeg has lodged an appeal against a planning condition attached to permission for a new ballroom at its resort in west Clare. Clare County Council granted approval in February on the condition that the operator submit a Vertigo Angustior Management Plan before work begins. TIGL Ireland Enterprises Ltd operates the Trump Doonbeg hotel and golf resort.

The appeal states that restoring the favourable conservation status of the tiny EU protected snail Vertigo Angustior on site lies beyond the operator’s control. The condition concerns the rare whorl snail. An Coimisiún Pleanála now reviews the first party appeal.
