TUI Group has reduced single use plastic consumption across its owned and managed hotels to 40 grams per guest night in the latest financial year. The biggest gains come from eliminating disposable items rather than simply swapping them, including almost halving plastic water bottle use at TUI BLUE properties.

The company successfully cut single-use plastic consumption across its owned and managed hotel portfolio by an estimated 13pc year-on-year for the 2025 financial year. This milestone brings total plastic waste reduction to around 30pc below 2022 levels, dropping single-use plastic intensity down to 40 grams per guest night. The progress is part of TUI’s People, Planet, Progress sustainability strategy, following an avoid, reuse, replace framework that prioritises eliminating disposables over simply changing materials.

At TUI BLUE hotels, the use of plastic water bottles dropped by nearly 50pc due to the widespread setup of water dispensers, reusable glasses and refillable bottles. Hotels removed or restricted several high-volume items, including plastic straws, stirrers, balloons, disposable cups, laundry bags and most single-use condiment packaging. In Türkiye, plastic consumption in TUI BLUE hotels dropped from 98 grams to 50 grams per guest night within a single year. TUI is also expanding its use of microfibre filtration technology following successful trials on its cruise ships.
