From Tuesday next November, all customers on the Irish Ryanair.com website and Ryanair Irish mobile app will be required to have a My Ryanair account prior to complete their flight booking.

Ryanair will automatically generate an account at the payment stage on the website and app, where they will be asked to enter an email address and password in order to join “My Ryanair” and complete their booking.

My Ryanair members create a personal profile where they can securely store payment and passport details and set their travel preferences.

The airline says that My Ryanair members will also receive special offers and exclusive early access to flash sales. This auto sign-in feature will be rolled out across all markets in November and December. The airline says that revenue generated by Myryanair and other efficiencies will enable the average fare to drop to €38 by 2020.

Michael O’Leary has described the creation of the My Ryanair database as the most valuable thing that Ryanair have done in recent times. MyRyanair is going to be central to everything we are going to do in the next four or five years. What that means is kind of scary, it means we will be with you as a customer of Ryanair every step of the journey. If you want car parking it is all done. If you want coffee on board, click on MyRyanair. no payments on board it will all be done on your MyRyanair account. If you fly two times with us this year we will give you an incentive to fly three times with us next year. if you fly 55 times with us we will give you an even bigger incentive to fly 56 times go fly with us next year. We won’t be sending you out points and credit cards. It will all be done on your mobile. We will tailor the services to whatever you need. We will know the six routes you fly, what hotels you like to stay, if you don’t stay in a hotel, you stay in an apartment, you won’t be shown a hotel at all, but you do use transfer from the airport, you will be shown transfer. Everything you want we can negotiate at a discount for your and deliver it to you. Because we have all your data we will know everything about you, who you are travelling with, where are you going, children, mistress, wife, whatever it is. The days of sending people emails saying do you want 20pc off travel insurance are over. 98pc of people did not want travel insurance so why were we bugging them with this spam? This is going to be a bigger business than Ryanair in the next eight to ten years.”

ryanair-screengrabKenny Jacobs said: Ryanair flights and other services while at the same time increasing their online security. It will also make it more difficult for screenscraper websites to miss-sell Ryanair’s low fares at inflated prices. The majority of Ryanair’s Irish customers already enjoy membership of My Ryanair and membership across Europe has doubled over the past 12 months, and 15m customers have already joined “My Ryanair” and are enjoying faster bookings, a personalised Ryanair experience, and special offers, as we continue to improve our digital platforms as part of our ‘Always Getting Better’ programme. From 1st November, customers on our Irish website and app will automatically join “My Ryanair” in order to complete their bookings and this service will be rolled out across all Ryanair.com websites before the end of 2016. “My Ryanair” improves the booking process for customers, gives them priority access to sales and discounts and will also help protect them from screenscraper websites, which are a rising source of complaints.”

Other airlines such as easyJet and Virgin, have already made it compulsory to have an account in order to book a flight.
