Bloomfield Hotel overlooks the lake is offering a two-night murmuration experience package with a book by photographer James Crombie, who took a world-famous photograph of starlings massing over the scenic lake.

Starling murmurations are drawing groups of visitors to Lough Ennell in Co Westmeath during winter and early spring from Ireland and abroad, including young and old people, which increases footfall in the shoulder period.

Bird Watch Ireland has noted growing public interest, with Lough Ennell hosting one of the country’s most reliable and large murmurations. Nearby Belvedere House is also experiencing more weekday visitors due to the phenomenon.

Oliver Gaffey of Bloomfield House shared “Over the last few years, we’ve seen a large increase in footfall to the lake to see the murmurations so we decided to put on a murmuration experience package. Young and old, people are coming from all over Ireland and abroad to experience it.”
