Wizz Air will officially open its 10th operational base in Romania at Brașov-Ghimbav International Airport in December 2026, stationing one of its modern Airbus A321neo aircraft at the airport. This move marks a major expansion in central Romania, creating new local jobs and boosting regional tourism. The airline has already flown over 800,000 people out of Brașov since starting flights there in August 2023.
The stationed jet will anchor four brand-new direct international routes starting from 17 December 2026. These routes include Barcelona and Madrid in Spain, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden in Germany, and Chișinău in Moldova. The expansion increases Wizz Air’s Brașov network to 15 total destinations across seven countries. The airline will also increase the frequency of its existing flights from Brașov to Nuremberg, Germany, starting 26 October 2026.
The new base creates local jobs and strengthens central Romania’s connectivity to key European markets. The four new routes connect Brașov to major Spanish cities, a German hub and Moldova’s capital. The airline’s presence in Brașov has grown steadily since the first flights in August 2023, with passenger numbers exceeding 800,000.
Wizz Air shared in a written statement “The new base in Brașov marks a major expansion in central Romania, creating new local jobs and boosting regional tourism. The stationed jet will anchor four brand-new direct international routes and increase the frequency of existing flights to Nuremberg.”
