Airline tipped to fly from China to Ireland fares poorly in on-time airline survey

China’s Hainan Airlines, which is reported to be considering a direct route from Dublin to Beijing, has emerged as one of the worst performers in a new ranking of airline punctuality.

Flightstats’ On-time Performance Services (OPS) Award, now in their eighth year, rate KLM as the best-performing airline in the major global airline network category. The finding follow a punctuality survey by OAG, which placed KLM third in the world.

Iberia beat competition from airlines including Delta Air Lines, Austrian, Singapore Airlines and JAL, to land the major global airline prize. It also won the European major airline category, while Iberia Express won the low-cost airlines title, beating Norwegian Air Shuttle, WestJet, Southwest Airlines and Air Baltic.

Oneworld – whose member include British Airway, Qatar Airway, Finnair and Iberia – was rated the best airline alliance, with 81.13% of flight on time (no more than 15 minutes late).

A number of Far Eastern airlines performed poorly in the poll, which doesn’t rate all airline. In descending order, Hainan is places 10th, with almost one in three flights facing delays. Israel’s El Al is the worst performer, according to flight stats.
