On Sunday 26 January, over 11,000 flights within, into, or out of the United States were cancelled, marking one of the highest single-day totals since the COVID-19 pandemic according to aviation data firms such as Cirium and FlightAware. Airports in the Northeast, including those in New York, Boston, and surrounding areas, experienced the heaviest impacts, with many operations nearly halted due to snow accumulation of up to 50 centimetres in places and extreme wind chills. The storm also affected southern and central regions earlier, contributing to a cumulative total exceeding 20,000 cancellations since Friday.
By Monday 26 January, more than 5,100 flights were cancelled nationwide, with around 5,700 delayed by mid-afternoon, and Northeast airports remaining among the hardest hit. Major carriers have issued travel waivers for rebooking, and operations began resuming gradually in some areas. As of early 27 January, residual effects from the storm continue to disrupt schedules, though the peak of cancellations appears to have passed, with airlines working to normalise services.
Northeastern US airports, including New York and Boston hubs, experienced the most severe disruptions.
