Aer Lingus research indicates that 34pc of Irish adults plan to attend an overseas destination event in 2026 with 11pc already booked and 21pc considering such trips driven by marathons concerts and sports. Trends include runcations for running events stagecations for concerts and sports spectacles with Aer Lingus supporting access to events in cities like Berlin London Boston and new routes to Indianapolis and Pittsburgh. The findings point to thrill-seeking endorfans prioritising live experiences. 

The core findings cover 34pc planning overseas events, 11pc booked and 21pc considering, focus on runcations stagecations and sports, events like marathons concerts and Indy 500, and airline routes facilitating North American and European access.

Aer Lingus shared in a written statement “Destination events are set to fuel travel in 2026 according to Aer Lingus. Research from the airline shows that over one third 34pc of Irish adults plan to tick an overseas event off their bucket list this year”.
