Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is offering airlines a 10pc discount on airport charges due to high jet fuel costs. The temporary measure applies to daytime flights from 27 April to March 2027. Schiphol implemented the discount to address rises in kerosene prices from the Iran war.

The airport ranked as the fourth busiest European hub last year with 68.77m passengers. London Heathrow, Istanbul, and Paris Charles de Gaulle recorded higher figures. KLM scrapped nearly 1pc of short-haul flights that became unprofitable because of fuel charges.

Schiphol stated the step supported connectivity for the Netherlands. The conflict disrupted trade through the Strait of Hormuz which previously carried about a fifth of the world’s oil. Airlines trimmed routes as fuel bills increased.

Schiphol shared “The airport is taking this measure because airlines’ costs have risen unexpectedly and sharply as a result of high kerosene prices. Especially in the current geopolitical situation it is important to keep the Netherlands connected to the rest of the world and to ensure that essential flights can continue to operate.”
