HX Expeditions has opened the 1896 Cabin aboard the Fridtjof Nansen and offers it as an optional upgrade for select voyages. The cabin became available from 25 April 2026 after construction setbacks delayed the original January launch. Officials confirmed essential elements went missing in transit to Buenos Aires.

The cabin recreates the atmosphere of a late 19th century explorer cabin to mark the company 130th year. AROS Marine designed and built it over 309 working hours with recycled wood for floors and ceilings. Décor and furniture came from markets and vintage fairs across Europe while a custom scent pod adds salt air and aged wood aromas.

The space includes bunk beds for two guests a single bed wooden chests chairs and a hidden bar in a barrel. Guests book it for one night per sailing at €100 per night per person with a maximum of three guests. Half of profits support the HX Foundation.

Gebhard Rainer shared “This cabin was always meant to honor our origins, and sometimes the journey to create something meaningful mirrors the journeys we undertake at sea. What our teams and partners have delivered is extraordinary.”
