Stena pays tribute to Special Olympics volunteers

Stena Line has recognised more than 2,500 volunteers who contributed 72,000 hours to the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games. The volunteers supported 1,277 athletes across 15 venues in Dublin from 18 June to 21 June 2026. Stena Line provided complimentary ferry travel to selected volunteers as appreciation for their efforts.

The Games featured sports that included football, swimming and athletics with an average of 1,800 spectators daily. Volunteers assisted with transport, competitions and spectator support. Stena Line sponsors Special Olympics Ireland and backed the Support An Athlete campaign that raised over €120,000.

The ferry operator highlighted the role of volunteers in creating inclusive events. Stena Line operates routes on the Irish Sea with frequent sailings. The recognition took place after the Games concluded.

Orla Noonan shared “We were blown away by so many brilliant performances by the athletes at the Summer Games, and we understand that the supporting role volunteers played at these games was truly extraordinary. At Stena Line, we wanted to say a heartfelt thank you and show them just how valued and appreciated they are.”
