Today is ‘National Travel Agent Day:’ but where did the idea come from?

Today is National Travel Agent Day, but who thought it up and when? Like many ideas, good, bad and somewhere in-between, in which category it probably belongs, it sprung from the pandemic. National Travel Agent Day was devised in England as an annual event designed to recognise and support the vital role that travel agents play in the industry. The event was invented by Intrepid Travel, the world’s largest adventure travel company.

Founded by Intrepid during the pandemic in 2020, National Travel Agent Day was created to recognise the vital role travel agents play in the industry. It was born as a way to bring the trade together during the massive disruptions of the Covid-19 crisis.

It originally took place on the last Friday before the English summer school term. However, because many people were already away on holiday at that time, organizers permanently shifted the event into September. [

Tour operators, suppliers, and travel groups mark the occasion with special incentives, booking discounts, and social media giveaways to thank agents for their hard-earned expertise.

As the creators at Intrepid Travel frequently shared, even though they started it, the day is meant for the whole industry: “While Intrepid founded National Travel Agent Day, it’s not ‘our’ day. We love to see trade support and collaboration and for businesses to celebrate in whatever way they want!”
