Judges from Travel Guard select 8 finalists, which are revealed on the contest website on 26 October.

Those final entries go up for a public vote until 9 November 2026. Finalists can share their submissions across social media to encourage votes. Four winners from the 8 selected finalists are determined based on vote volume, with the grand prize of €9,200 going to the submission with the highest number of votes. The finalists that receive the second, third and fourth highest number of votes are also awarded prizes. A randomly selected voter is chosen to receive a sweepstakes prize of a GoPro action camera and kit.

Rhonda Sloan, CMO, North America at Zurich Cover-More, shared that Travel Guard knows that even the best-planned vacations can quickly unravel. She shared that the company created the World’s Unluckiest Traveler contest to recognise those who have endured the worst in pursuit of their love of travel and to show the misfortunes that show how valuable a travel insurance plan can be.
