Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has reported that its booked position for the first half of 2027 remains behind last year. Pricing is ahead in every quarter of 2027. The company expects full year 2027 net yield growth of 1pc to 2pc with acceleration in the second half.

The company rolled out a new revenue management system and a base loading strategy across most Norwegian Cruise Line second half 2027 sailings and all 2028 sailings. The strategy could not reach first half 2027 because much inventory was already booked. NCLH CEO John Chidsey described 2027 as a tale of two halves.

In the travel, tourism, and travel retail sectors, base-loading refers to a strategic pricing and inventory management approach where a business secures a baseline level of volume or revenue early on by offering stable, slightly lower upfront pricing, as applied by airlines such as Ryanair. It is unusual in the cruise industry.

CFO Mark Kempa noted the strategy had been in place for only 60 to 90 days. The goal is to give guests confidence in upfront pricing and pull bookings earlier. Earlier bookings are expected to reduce churn ahead of final payment and lower acquisition costs.

John Chidsey shared “2027 is a tale of two halves.”

Mark Kempa shared “That’s not going to turn into instant mashed potatoes.”
