Construction of a US$12bn high-speed rail service between Las Vegas and Los Angeles is currently underway, with the goal of having trains operational by 2028.
Brightline West, the private company behind the project, plans to lay 351 km of new track along Interstate 15 in the median, aiming for trains to reach speeds exceeding 300 kph by the time of the 2028 Summer Olympics in LA.
The project has received federal funding and authorization, with the aim of providing a faster and more convenient travel option for cities too near for air travel and too far for driving.
The high-speed rail service is expected to carry 11m passengers annually, with fares comparable to airline tickets, offering amenities such as Wi-Fi, food and beverage sales, and luggage check-in.
