TAP Air Portugal’s privatisation process has been put back to September 2025, as confirmed by the company’s president, Luís Rodrigues, amid ongoing political considerations.

TAP are leaning towards Lufthansa as a strategic partner, rather than IAG, to protect the Lisbon hub from being subsumed or overtaken by Madrid.

Luís Rodrigues emphasised that TAP is focusing its flights on the West, targeting the US, Canada, and Latin America, while currently having no plans to introduce a new route to China.

Despite the full capacity of Lisbon airport and potential summer operational bottlenecks, Rodrigues expressed confidence in collaboratively managing the situation with stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

While recognising sustainability as a significant challenge for the airline, Rodrigues clarified there are no immediate plans to implement surcharges for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on ticket prices, despite similar initiatives announced by other airlines like Lufthansa.
