Airfield Estate in Dundrum, Dublin, hosted the “Cultivating Storytelling” event to connect and empower growers, suppliers, and stakeholders in the sustainable food sector.
The event brought together over 40 participants, including head gardeners from notable estates, aiming to strengthen relationships and share knowledge within the growing community as demand for sustainable, locally sourced food increases.
CEO Claire Mac Evilly highlighted the need for collective efforts in sustainable food production, envisioning the event as a platform akin to a “Davos style” gathering for growers, recognizing their critical role in the food chain.
August Bernstein, Head Gardener at the Michelin-starred Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, shared her insights on the significance of locally grown produce and the necessity of preserving traditional growing practices for future generations in an engaging talk during the event: “Anyone involved in horticulture or food production understands intimately the magic that comes with growing produce, and we take such pride in our work because it is so special. When people are dining out they are looking for memorable experiences, and tasting quality, fresh, produce at its absolute peak is instrumental to this. As an often-over-looked part of the food chain, it is key that we have the requisite supports to preserve the traditions and practice for future generations. Ireland has a reputation for producing world-class ingredients and this should be protected”
