The tourism industry in Ireland is worth almost €17bn and supports 300,000 jobs, with positive indicators of recovery post-pandemic, according to a report from Ulster University and Dublin City University.
The report recommended increased cooperation between the two jurisdictions on the island to unlock long-term growth and close the gap in tourism development. The report shows the number of cross border visits made form the 26 to the six counties has tripled in the last decade.
Ana Desmond, Senior Economist at the Ulster University Economic Policy Centre said “there are a couple of indicators that are still lagging behind 2019 levels. If we look at the number of arrivals into airports across Ireland, those are starting to increase on pre-pandemic, but some areas still remain a little bit sticky at pre-pandemic levels.”
