AI trip planning tools have been leading travellers to non-existent landmarks in Peru and incorrect itineraries, such as stranding hikers in Japan.
A 2024 survey revealed 37pc of users found AI lacked sufficient travel information, while 33pc reported false recommendations. Issues stem from AI’s method of generating answers, which can produce unreliable or fabricated details.
Experts warn travellers to verify AI-generated plans to avoid potentially dangerous outcomes. The growing use of AI in travel planning underscores the need for improved accuracy and validation.
