Air France and KLM have signed up for the EU Flight Emissions Label (FEL), introduced at the end of December 2024 to assist consumers in making sustainable travel decisions. Air France-KLM announced it would voluntarily adopt the FEL to enhance communication regarding its decarbonisation strategy.

The FEL aims to provide transparent information on flight-related greenhouse gas emissions, facilitating informed purchasing decisions for passengers. The initiative seeks to establish a common methodology for estimating flight emissions, addressing the current discrepancies in reporting practices among airlines.

EU Transport commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas commended Air France and KLM for their leadership in joining the FEL, highlighting it as a step towards fair competition and transparency in aviation.

Apostolos Tzitzikostas shared, “I warmly welcome the decision by Air France and KLM to become the first airlines to join the EU Flight Emissions Label. This decisive step turns their commitment to decarbonisation into concrete action, reinforcing fair competition, transparency, and trust. It also marks a key milestone in the rollout of the EU Flight Emissions Label and ReFuelEU Aviation. I encourage other airlines to join this initiative, driving a more sustainable and transparent future for European aviation. This will help passengers make informed decisions and protect them from misleading greenwashing claims.”
