Airlines for America has said it will raise the issue of the anti-competitive passenger cap at Dublin airport with the White House.

Keith Glatz said Airlines for America has so far not raised the cap issue directly with the US government but intends ding so this week as it begins a series of media briefings.

Dublin Airport currently faces a cap limiting passenger numbers to 32 million annually, a planning condition from 2007.

Airlines for America claims this cap violates the Open Skies agreement between the US and the EU, restricting carrier access.

The Irish government has proposed legislation to address the cap; however, it may take months or longer before implementation.

Mr Glatz shared, “The time to act is now, I think it’s in the very interest of this [Irish] government to act as soon as possible.”
