Birmingham Airport (BHX) is transitioning to a barrierless drop-off system, aiming to streamline the vehicle access process.

Effective from February 5, 2025, vehicle registrations will be captured using Automatic Number Plate Recognition for efficient drop-off management.

The phased rollout will begin with the Elmdon multi-storey facility this month and extend to other areas by spring 2025.

Stansted Airport has recently implemented a similar barrierless system, with vehicles required to pay for drop-offs by midnight the following day.

At the Travel Talks with Eoghan Corry sessions at Holliday World in the RDSm Dublin Airport CEO Kenny Jacobs said there were no plans to introduce drop off parking charges at Dublin airport but if they were forced on the airport as a planning condition, it would be barrier free.
