Cathay Pacific identified an engine component failure in one of its A350-1000 aircraft following an inflight return on flight CX383 to Zurich.
The A350-1000s in Cathay’s fleet are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, while the A350-900s use Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 engines.
The airline has initiated a fleet-wide inspection of its 48 A350 aircraft and identified 15 with affected engine components requiring replacement, causing some aircraft to be out of service until repairs are completed by September 7.
Cathay Pacific has informed impacted customers of flight cancellations and provided alternative travel options, with further cancellations expected for regional return flights on September 4 while long-haul services are not anticipated to be affected.
