Visit Waterford has launched the ‘Dig Into Waterford’ campaign on the first day of summer in 2023, promoting tourism for the city’s 1,111th birthday, and promoting the catchphrase that Waterford is the birthplace of urban Ireland.
The campaign features six unique itineraries highlighting coastal villages and iconic locations, providing tailored experiences for visitors.
The historic city is the focal point, offering walking tours, exhibitions, and cultural activities to explore its rich stories and heritage.
A new podcast series, ‘Digging into Waterford,’ was unveiled, sharing insights and narratives related to the city’s past and present experiences.

Community involvement is encouraged through a folklore submission initiative, aiming to preserve local stories and history for future generations.
Clare Barrett, Chair of Visit Waterford shared: This is a chance to preserve those voices and local history stories for generations to come. We wanted to create something that could deepen people’s understanding of Waterford, even before they arrive. Dig Into Waterford isn’t just a call to visit, it’s an invitation to uncover the layers of our heritage.”
