
Dublin City Council has revealed it issued 300 statutory warning letters to property owners for short term rentals to tourists so far in 2025, through outlets such as AirBnB and Vrbo.
The council says that since July 2019, 1,996 cases have been resolved following enforcement actions under new short-term letting legislation.
Fáilte Ireland has been tasked with establishing a statutory register for short-term letting accommodation, requiring compliance from hosts, but this has not yet been completed, and a
new Short-Term Letting and Tourism Bill aims to implement the EU Short-Term Rental Regulation has not been enacted.
Fáilte Ireland shared, “Short-term letting (STL) accommodation is an important part of the overall tourist accommodation mix, helping to ensure we have offerings that cater to the different needs of visitors. The Short-Term Letting and Tourism Bill is being progressed by the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment (DETE).”
