Ryanair’s September OTA survey reveals that online travel agencies (OTAs) like eDreams, Tix, and Vola are overcharging customers significantly, with some prices marked up by up to 125pc compared to Ryanair’s direct prices.
A written statement from Ryanair claimed eDreams charges €18 for a reserved seat that costs only €8 on Ryanair’s website, and €25.72 for a 10kg bag that is €12.09 on Ryanair, indicating substantial overcharges.
Ryanair continues to call for action from EU governments and consumer protection authorities to enhance pricing transparency in line with their approved OTA partners.
The survey highlights a lack of action by many European consumer agencies and ministers, particularly critiquing Spain’s Consumer Minister Pablo Bustinduy for failing to protect consumers from overcharging practices.
Ryanair’s Dara Brady urged for urgent measures against OTAs causing harm to consumers across Europe, particularly in Spain, where eDreams has a considerable presence.
Dara Brady shared, “Ryanair’s September OTA survey shows that eDreams, Tix & Vola continue to harm unsuspecting consumers with substantial overcharges. We continue to call on EU Govts and Consumer Protection Authorities to take urgent action against these OTA overcharges.”
