The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has ordered inspections of Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines on A350-1000s following an incident on a Cathay Pacific flight on September 2.
The inspections, focused on flexible fuel hose connections inside the engines, are mandated to be completed within a month as a precautionary measure to ensure safety.
Qatar Airways, the largest A350 operator, confirmed it received an Emergency Airworthiness Directive from EASA concerning these inspections, emphasizing passenger safety as a priority.
While Cathay Pacific reported that 15 of its 18 A350-1000s were affected by the issue, Malaysia Airlines also identified fuel hose defects in its A350-900 fleet but confirmed those issues were quickly resolved; EASA stated that no extension of inspections to the Trent XWB-84 engines is currently warranted.
