Easyjet has confirmed a partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink to introduce high-speed low-latency in-flight Wi-Fi. The rollout begins in the first half of 2027 with full completion expected by early 2028. The system will be retrofitted onto roughly 300 aircraft specifically targeting Airbus A320, A320neo and A321neo models. The older Airbus A319 aircraft will be excluded as they are slated for retirement by 2029.
Utilising Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation passengers will be able to stream high-definition video, play online games, browse social media and work from takeoff to landing. The connection will support real-time flight status tracking via the Easyjet app and may eventually enable passengers to order food and drinks from personal devices.
Easyjet has not disclosed whether the Wi-Fi will be free or a paid premium service. The airline previously ruled out the technology due to high setup and operational costs. Budget competitors like Wizz Air have also announced a 2027 Starlink rollout creating pressure over whether low-cost airlines will charge for the feature.
Ryanair ruled out equipping its aircraft fleet with Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service due to a combination of operational penalties, high implementation costs, and the short duration of its flight. The decision sparked a highly publicised war of words between Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary and Elon Musk. O’Leary defended the choice as a matter of strict adherence to the airline’s ultra-low-cost business model
