European carriers experienced a 2.8pc increase in demand, with capacity rising by 3.3pc year-on-year and a load factor of 87.4pc.

IATA reported a global total demand increase of 2.6pc in June 2025 compared to June 2024, with capacity also rising by 3.4pc. International demand saw a growth of 3.2pc, with a corresponding capacity rise of 4.2pc, while the load factor stood at 84.4pc.

Domestic air travel expanded by 1.6pc, against a capacity increase of 2.1pc, with the load factor reaching 84.7pc. Willie Walsh mentioned the challenges posed by military conflicts, noting that although demand growth has slowed, load factors remain robust at 84.5pc.

Willie Walsh shared, “In June, demand for air travel grew by 2.6pc. That’s a slower pace than we have seen in previous months and reflects disruptions around military conflict in the Middle East. With demand growth lagging the 3.4pc capacity expansion, load factors dipped 0.6p from their all-time record-high levels. At 84.5pc globally, however, load factors are still very strong. And with a modest 1.8pc capacity growth visible in August schedules, load factors over the Northern summer are unlikely to stray far from their recent historic highs.”
