Irish families who have the flexibility to travel after the peak summer season can save almost €1,000 on the cost of a family holiday by choosing to travel in September instead of August, according to new research from Click&Go Holidays.

The online travel company compared package holiday prices for a family of two adults and two children across five of Ireland’s most popular family holiday destinations – Salou, the Algarve, Majorca, the Costa del Sol and Gran Canaria – and found that travelling in September costs, on average, 39pc less than travelling in August. The analysis found that the average cost of an August family holiday is €632 per person, compared with just €383 per person in September. This represents an average saving of €249 per person, or almost €1,000 for a family of four. Click&Go Holidays said similar savings are also available throughout October, with the exception of the October mid-term school break, when demand increases and prices typically rise.

The findings come as families continue to look for ways to reduce the cost of their holidays. Click&Go Holidays’ Travel Sentiment Surveys in 2026 have found on average 60pc of parents travelling with children would consider taking their children out of school to benefit from lower holiday prices, this highlights that cost remains a key consideration for many families when planning overseas travel. In addition to lower prices, families travelling in September can often enjoy quieter resorts, shorter airport queues, greater hotel availability and more comfortable temperatures across many Mediterranean destinations.

Paul Hackett shared: “Our latest research shows that families who can travel after the peak summer season can make significant savings, with a family of four saving close to €1,000 simply by travelling in September instead of August. Our Travel Sentiment Surveys also shows that value for money continues to be a major factor for Irish families.”
