France is preparing for a nationwide general strike on 5 November 2026. Five major union confederations have called the action over wages, purchasing power, employment and the proposed 2027 budget. All four main railway unions at SNCF support the strike.
Rail services face the highest risk. Widespread impacts are expected on TGV InOui and Ouigo networks, regional TER connections, Intercités long-distance trains and Paris-region RER and Transilien lines. Cross-border TGV connections to Spain, Italy, Germany and Switzerland face delays and cancellations. SNCF Connect will publish line-by-line traffic forecasts by late afternoon on 4 November.
The FO DGAC union filed a strike notice covering air traffic controllers. Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly face operational restrictions. RATP metro and bus services face reduced frequencies and station closures. A protest march runs from Place de la Bastille to Place de la Concorde. Metro Line 7 bis closes for engineering works from 5 November to 13 December.
