Air traffic in Europe increased by 4pc in 2025 compared to 2024, averaging 35,532 daily flights, according to European aviation regulators Eurocontrol.

The peak traffic day in 2025 is forecasted for 18 July, with an expected 37,034 flights, narrowly missing the record of 37,228 flights from 28 June 2019.

ATFM delays have decreased by 46pc compared to 2024, averaging 4.4 minutes per flight, with major delays attributed to adverse weather conditions.

France generated 31pc of network delays, while Germany and Spain contributed 18pc and 7pc respectively, primarily due to capacity and staffing issues.

Network operations show improvements with year-to-date traffic growth of 3.9pc and notable reductions in delays across multiple ACCs in South-East Europe and beyond.
