Germany recorded 10.8m overnight stays by international visitors in July 2026 marking a 3.2pc increase compared to the same month last year. Data released by the German Federal Statistical Office shows that this peak summer growth contributed to a historic total of 282.1m overnight stays combining domestic and international guests between January and July 2026. This overall figure represents a 0.9pc increase from 2025 and edges past the previous pre-pandemic record set during the same period in 2019.
Total international overnight stays reached 47.1m across the first seven months of the year a 1.0pc rise year-on-year. While foreign inbound tourism gained strong momentum in July domestic travellers still made up the vast majority of July’s overall volume accounting for 47.7m stays.
Industry sentiment tracked by the German National Tourist Board indicates continued growth heading into the autumn driven by a stabilising global travel landscape and consistent interest in urban destinations.
