Hurricane Matthew closes Florida theme parks until Saturday

Most of the Orlando theme parks have closed as a result of Hurricane Matthew, the most intense tropical storm to hit the USA in a decade. Busch Gardens remains open.

hurricane-mathewSeaWorld Orlando: The park will be closed on Friday, according to the park hours calendar on its website. SeaWorld’s water park Aquatica will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Kennedy Space Center: The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will be closed Thursday and Friday. The Visitor Complex is anticipated to reopen Saturday at 9am according to kennedyspacecenter.com

Universal Orlando: Universal spokeswoman Alyson Lundell said Universal Orlando Resort will close Wet ‘n Wild at 2pm Thursday and remain closed on Friday. Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and CityWalk will close at 5pm Thursday and remain closed on Friday. Halloween Horror Nights is canceled Thursday and Friday. “Our plan is to resume normal operations across our destination Saturday morning,”

Disney: All of Disney’s Orlando theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, miniature golf courses and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will all close at 5pm Thursday, and remain closed through Friday, according to disneyworld.disney.go.com. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom has been canceled for Thursday and Friday night. Disney’s campground, Fort Wilderness, was set to close at 11am on Thursday and be cleared of campers. There was no information provided about when it might reopen.

Legoland Florida: “Legoland Florida Resort will operate as scheduled Thursday, Oct 6, but may close early due to the approach of Hurricane Matthew. For the safety of all guests and employees, Legoland Florida Theme Park will remain closed Friday, Oct 7, but Legoland Hotel will be open to admit arriving guests,” reads legoland.com/florida.

Busch Gardens Tampa:Busch Gardens spokeswoman Karen Varga-Sinka said. “we are continuing to monitor Hurricane Matthew and at this time we are expected to be open as scheduled. We have comprehensive weather preparedness plans in place, and will continue to closely monitor the progress and track of the storm,

Lowry Park Zoo: Will open late Friday, at 11 a.m. The zoo plans to remain open on Friday until 10 pm for the opening night of its Halloween event, Creatures of the Night. The zoo will have staff on site Friday morning focused on safety concerns for people and animals, and removal of debris.
