Indonesia’s Garuda plans to purchase fifty Boeing aircraft, primarily B777s, following a trade deal that reduces tariffs on Indonesian products from 32pc to 19pc.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto confirmed the purchase as part of efforts to strengthen Garuda Indonesia. Garuda Indonesia currently operates a fleet of 79 aircraft, including five A330-200s, 45 B737-800s, and eight B777-300ERs.

A recent restructuring plan for Garuda Indonesia Group aims to grow its fleet to 120 aircraft and add up to 100 new routes by 2029. Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara has invested USD405m into the Garuda Indonesia Group to support this expansion.

Prabowo Subianto shared, “We do need Boeing aircraft to expand Garuda. Garuda is our pride.”
