JUST BACK FROM: Brightline’s Florida rail service

Unlike Europe, America is not known for its airport train connectivity, but Orlando is a particularly sunny exception. Aer Lingus passengers arriving in terminal C can walk across the road bridge and find a clean, secure and efficient service that opens up the Atlantic coast resorts of Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale all the way to Miami.

Brightline’s Premium service (its first-class offering) provided an elevated, comfortable experience on the route from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale.

This high-speed rail trip typically takes about 2.5–3 hours, with the train reaching speeds up to 125 mph. Premium is a step up from the standard Smart class, emphasizing lounge access, complimentary food and drinks, and more spacious seating.

  • Premium Lounge Access: At major stations like Orlando (adjacent to the airport) and Fort Lauderdale, you get access to a dedicated Premium Lounge. These feature comfortable seating, power outlets, free Wi-Fi, and complimentary bites and sips (unlimited non-alcoholic drinks, plus a limited number of alcoholic beverages like beer or wine, depending on the time of day). Offerings often include pastries, fresh fruit, deli items, salads, sandwiches, baked goods, and hot breakfast options in the morning. The lounge in Orlando was quite crowded, putting the premium offering under pressure.
  • Priority Services: Priority check-in, security/boarding access (especially in Orlando and Miami), and in some cases checked baggage perks (one free standard checked bag). Come early. A large party had use dup all the checked baggage facilities when we boarded.
  • Spacious 21-inch hand-stitched leather seats with extra legroom and recline (compared to 19-inch seats in Smart class). Configurations often include solo seats with tables (great for working or solo travelers), pairs, or quads with tables. The cars feel modern, clean, and quiet.
  • Complimentary Food & Drinks: Includes snacks, a meal-appropriate offering (e.g., sandwich, salad, fruit, or similar tray on longer segments), non-alcoholic beverages, and at least one alcoholic drink per segment. Attentive crew members serve these at your seat. Smart class requires purchases.
  • Other Amenities: Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, power outlets (including USB), and a smooth, comfortable ride. The train is modern with large windows for scenic views of Florida.

Additional perks include priority boarding in key stations.more flexible cancellation (100% Brightline credits).

The journey is somewhat similar to a short-haul business or first-class flight—relaxed, efficient, and upscale without being overly formal.

Premium fares vary (often $50–100+ more than Smart depending on demand and booking timing), but reviewers frequently note the lounge, food/drinks, and extra space as worthwhile for a more relaxing journey, especially on the full Orlando–South Florida route.

The service is clean, punctual, and a stress-free alternative to driving or flying the same route. For the latest details, menus, or pricing, check Brightline’s official site (gobrightline.com) as offerings can vary slightly by station and time.
