Two German airports suspended flights on Thursday morning due to climate activists breaching the airfields as part of a larger protest targeting four airports nationwide.
Flights were temporarily suspended at Cologne-Bonn airport due to activists attaching themselves to the asphalt, with flights later resuming after police action. A hole in an airport fence was reported. Flights were also halted briefly at Nuremberg airport.
At Berlin airport, two individuals who had attached themselves to the ground during the protest were removed and detained by authorities.
The Letzte Generation (Last Generation) campaign group conducted protests at Berlin, Cologne-Bonn, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart airports involving a total of eight activists, starting at around 5 a.m.
Pictures were published showing activists with their hands glued to the tarmac during the protest.
Letzte Generation are demanding that the German government to negotiate and sign an agreement for a global exit from the use of oil, gas, and coal by 2030.
No flights to or from Ireland were affected.
