Lufthansa Group has firmed options for 20 Boeing 737-10s, its first order for the type, which will gradually replace older Airbus A320 family aircraft across its portfolio of airlines. The yet-to-be-certified largest variant of the MAX family will offer more capacity than the Group’s 737-8s on existing order. Deliveries of its 737-10s are expected to begin in the early 2030s and will form part of an ongoing modernisation push to replace older aircraft with more efficient models.
At the end of June 2026 Lufthansa Group had 334 A320ceo family aircraft in its fleet according to financial filings down from 344 in the prior year period. Its midyear totals include 81 A319s operated by Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings with airframes averaging roughly 21 years of age. By exercising the first 20 options Lufthansa Group further strengthens its long-term capacity planning according to the company.
The newly exercised 737-10s are part of an order placed by Lufthansa in December 2023 that included options for 60 MAX aircraft. Deliveries of 40 737-8s on order already fully allocated to low-cost carrier subsidiary Eurowings are expected to begin in 2027. Lufthansa Group plans to take delivery of more than 250 new aircraft by 2035.
