A month since OPW staff returned to Castletown House in Celbridge, Co Kildare after an eighteen-month absence, service vehicles are still unable to access the site.
In September 2023, following the private sale of nearby land, an entrance and car park near the M4 was closed to the public and OPW staff.
Plans to open a new car park and ensure services such as toilets and bins are available have been hindered by the current standoff over access to the site via an alternative entrance on the main avenue, Lime Avenue.
Last month it was announced that staff would return to Castletown in May but service vehicles remain unable to access the estate because of the dispute.
The Chairperson of the Castletown Foundation, David Sheehan, shared, “The State has a duty of care to resolve the issues with access to the estate.”
