Dublin Airport’s operator has submitted a planning application for the expansion of the Pier 1 West building to Fingal County Council.

The proposed development includes a second storey, adding 1,080 square metres and featuring two new boarding gates, two external vertical circulation cores, and various support rooms.

This expansion aims to enhance passenger facilities, providing additional seating, food and beverage outlets, and upgraded toilet amenities.

DAA is working towards increasing Dublin Airport’s passenger capacity to 40m as part of a wider €2.9bn investment programme. A previous application to demolish the spiral parking ramps at Terminal 1 was refused, as the structures were deemed part of the airport’s architectural heritage.

Vincent Harrison shared, “This extension is not just about bricks and mortar, it’s a vital step in enhancing the passenger experience at Dublin Airport. The spiral ramps have not been in use for many years and their structural condition has deteriorated over time. Removing them was part of our plan to enhance the airport’s infrastructure and ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency for all our passengers and employees.”
