Oman Air has terminated around 1,000 employees as part of a strategy to reduce costs and align its workforce with similar-sized airlines.
Before the layoffs, Oman Air had 4,300 employees, with plans to reduce the total to 2,700, according to Chairman Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali.
Approximately half of the dismissed employees were foreign citizens, and the airline previously announced the termination of 487 expatriates over the past 18 months.
Following the layoffs, Oman Air increased its Omanisation rate to 79.4pc, reflecting a commitment to hire local nationals, up from 74.8pc in 2023.
The airline is undergoing a restructuring of its network and operational framework while currently operating a fleet that includes multiple Boeing and inactive Airbus aircraft.
