Ryanair has decided to move an aircraft from Cork Airport to Shannon Airport for the upcoming winter period due to lower costs at Shannon, according to chief executive Michael O’Leary.
The airline will be adding a fourth aircraft at Shannon, introducing three new routes to Lapland, Madeira, and Madrid, which is expected to deliver a 20pc increase in traffic at the airport.
Cork Airport will lose one of its Ryanair aircraft for the winter, but O’Leary mentioned the possibility of reinstating the fourth aircraft next summer.
Michael O’Leary shared, “Shannon Airport has lower costs than Cork. I think we’ll be able to put the fourth aircraft back into Cork next summer. Both Shannon Airport and Cork Airport have grown strongly in the last year or two.”
