- Bangkok and 61 provinces are on standby
- Authorities have warned of flash flooding, landslides and rough seas
- Upper Thailand will face severe thunderstorms from 5 to 7 November
- All 14 southern provinces are under a flood watch from 7 to 9 November
Thailand has placed Bangkok and 61 provinces on high alert from 5 to 9 November 2026 as a strong high-pressure system from China triggers unseasonably turbulent weather. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has put emergency responders and rescue equipment on 24-hour standby to accelerate drainage, set up temporary shelters and manage localised evacuation risks.
Upper Thailand will face severe thunderstorms, violent gusty winds, isolated hail and heavy downpours from 5 to 7 November. Unstable weather will strike the Northeast region first before tracking across the North, the Central Plains including Bangkok and the Eastern region. Residents are advised to avoid staying in open areas, taking shelter under large trees or standing near large billboards during storms. Farmers are urged to secure crops and livestock.
All 14 southern provinces are under an intense flood watch from 7 to 9 November. Precipitation will escalate significantly, bringing torrential, continuous rain with a high probability of flash floods, mountain runoff and landslides. Rough sea conditions are forecast for the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea, with waves expected to surge past two metres in storm-affected areas. Mariners are urged to avoid sailing through stormy patches.
