Sitges has celebrated its Festa Major de Sant Bartomeu from 19 to 26 August, the town’s biggest annual festival and a Festival of National Cultural Interest since 2016. The Costa Barcelona town, located 40 minutes from Barcelona by train and road, has combined centuries-old traditions with a contemporary atmosphere.

Giants, devils, traditional dances, human towers and music have filled the streets throughout the celebration. A spectacular traditional fireworks display took place on La Fragata beach on 23 August. The festivities culminated on 24 August, the feast day of Sitges’ patron saint, with processions and traditional performances bringing the community together.

The festival has attracted visitors from across Spain and internationally, reinforcing Sitges’ position as a cultural destination within the Barcelona metropolitan region. The programme included 438 official events across multiple venues, demonstrating the scale of the celebration. The Festa Major de Sant Bartomeu has maintained its status as one of Catalonia’s most significant cultural festivals since receiving its National Cultural Interest designation in 2016.

Festival organiser shared “the celebration combines centuries-old traditions with a vibrant contemporary atmosphere and has brought the community together through processions and traditional performances.”
