The United States Department of Transportation dismissed its January 2025 lawsuit against Southwest Airlines regarding chronically delayed flights on specific routes.
The notice of dismissal was submitted to the Northern California District Court on May 16, 2025, without any explanation provided.
The lawsuit accused Southwest of selling flights with unrealistic schedules, leading to claims of unfair practices under federal consumer protection laws.
Routes named in the lawsuit included services from Oakland International to Chicago O’Hare and from Baltimore International to Cleveland Hopkins.
In 2024 and 2025, other airlines faced penalties for similar issues, including Frontier Airlines with a fine of $650,000 and JetBlue Airways with a $2m penalty.
