More than 12,000 beds that were used for Ukrainian emergency accommodation have been reallocated to the tourism sector in 2024.

Fáilte Ireland statistics show the proportion of beds on government contracts has fallen from 12pc to 6pc. Last year 424 Ukraine contracts – accounting for about 15,000 beds – were ended.

Temporary protection seekers in Ireland totaled 112,189 Ukrainians since the start of the war, as per February figures from the Central Statistics Office. The new figures come as the responsibility for the Ukrainian response is to move from the Department of Children and Integration to the Department of Justice..
